DISCLAIMER: Typically, we will be sharing work and progress from our clients’ homes. However, we thought we would kick off the blog by sharing Josh and Amanda (of RSW Building)’s experience in transforming their first house with good bones to a home they love!
“When we first set foot into what would be our son’s room, three things stood out to us:
The three dead mice on the floor would not be allowed to stay.
Mauve was not this room’s power color.
We were still so excited to share this new space with our sweet boy, even though it was plain disgusting right then.
We were 5 months pregnant at the time, and the nesting bug had already set in. But where do we start? Do we decorate this space ourselves? Do we wait until our son is born and create a room that reflects his personality and likes? We decided to do a little of both.
We painted the walls white, a blank canvas for our boy. (Not so) gently reminded him, via pennant flags, of our family’s die-hard allegiances to both the Portland Timbers and LA Angels. We refurbished an old dresser and dressed it with the “dirty baseball” drawer knobs Josh’s mom painted for Josh when he was little. And lastly, we filled the room with the books we had dreamed of reading to him as soon as we arrived home from the hospital.
Since our son has been born, we have continued to learn more about him and adjust his room to both teach him new things and reflect the silly, affectionate and active kid he is. We are honored to have the opportunity to create this special space for our boy.”
COMPLIMENTARY DAD JOKE:
My wife is really mad about the fact that I have no sense of direction.
So I packed up my stuff and right.
